Meet team leader Dr. Cheryl Wolfinger

Cheryl is someone who has the incredible gift of making you think you can do anything. For 20 years she has invested her life in the lives of others while serving as the CEO of International Sports Federation. ISF is a nonprofit organization that sends teams of sports related volunteers to serve in countries around the world. In 20 years, ISF has become a leader in sports missions by mobilizing nearly 8,700 volunteers to serve in 124 countries around the world.
Cheryl's life revolves around motivating people to get beyond themselves and sacrificially serve in some of the most remote areas of the world. Many volunteers have started out thinking they could not serve on a mission project in another country: it was simply too hard, to expensive, too dangerous, too whatever. Yet somehow, through Cheryl's encouragement, these same people have found themselves in an airplane seat headed off to a great adventure.
In February of 2004, Cheryl was diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma. The following months left her weakened and struggling through the devastating side effects of chemo and radiation. However, year by year Cheryl has regained her strength and now at the age of 47 she is ready to embrace one of the greatest challenges of her life.
While looking for a way to commemorate the 20 year anniversary of ISF and her 10 year victory over cancer, Cheryl wanted to find a way to both inspire others and challenge herself. One of the permanent side effects of Cheryl's treatment is severe pneumofibrosis, which is scarring on her lungs from the radiation. This scar tissue has decreased her lung capacity to only 50-60% of what it was before cancer. She has had the choice to accept this lung damage or fight to regain her ability to exercise and lead an active healthy lifestyle. She has chosen to fight, and hopes that her fight will inspire others to "push back" against whatever challenges their life path has dealt them.
So, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of International Sports Federation, Cheryl will lead a team of 20 climbers to the summit of the world's largest free standing mountain, Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. This will be, by far, the toughest physical challenge Cheryl can imagine putting herself through, and it is her desire that you will be inspired to join her. Even though you may not be able to be a member of the Climb20 team that will trek to the rooftop of Africa, you can join the virtual journey. You can choose to commit yourself to a stronger, healthier lifestyle. Please join Climb20 to see what mountains you can climb in your life; whether it is to lose 20 pounds or run a marathon, you can do it!!
He is able to do immeasurably more than we could think or imagine, according to His power that is at work in us. Ephesians 3:20
