"God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. God blessed them; and God said to them, 'Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.'" Genesis 1:27-28
"Nothing worth having is ever easy." Have you ever heard that phrase? It may not be Scriptural, but it is true in regards to most things. Every pursuit or journey we embark on will be difficult at some point, and the road to a God-glorifying life is no different.
We often treat a God-glorifying life as simply Spiritual and not much else, but that's not true. God made you! He made you in His own image! That means ALL of you - spiritually, emotionally, physically and mentally, all have an opportunity to reflect His glorious image!
Emotionally, we see God full of joy, compassion, anger, sadness and jealousy, just to name a few. In Christ alone, we see Him weep over the death of His friend and we see Him filled with jealousy for His Father's Name and Glory as He turns over the tables of the money changers in the temple. Emotions shouldn't rule us or determine how we respond, but they are God-given gifts that are meant to reflect His image and glory.
Mentally, God knows EVERYTHING! When we study and use wisdom, we are reflecting His image in us. When we solve problems and work to understand the world He has created around us, we reflect Him.
Spiritually, God is Spirit. He has created humanity with a soul that lasts for all of eternity. He made humanity in His own image so that we could walk with Him, talk with Him, enjoy Him and delight in Him. He made us to have an everlasting, perfect relationship with Him. When we pursue knowing Him and delighting in Him and what He has done, we reflect His glorious image.
Next week we'll look at Physically, but let's focus together this week in asking The Lord for help, seeking how we can glorify Him in all areas of life.
Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your glorious Word and for, in Your perfect wisdom, making all of humanity in Your image. I know I can never reflect Your image perfectly, but please open my eyes today to see how I can honor and glorify You by reflecting Your image in every area of my life. In Your powerful name I pray, Amen.
